Good and Bad Characters in Jack & The Beanstalk (Principled)

Dear Caileigh,

This is an example of your best work from our inquiry into stories and story characters. You carefully analyzed which characters you thought were good and bad and gave reasons from the story for your opinions. This work also shows that you understand what it means to be principled. This is a learner profile trait that you exhibit in our class every day. In this work, you applied your knowledge of being principled to storybook characters.

Writing: Before & After

Dear Caileigh,

You have made a lot of progress in writing this year. Here is a sample of your work from September:

This piece shows that you could record most beginning and ending sounds in single words. You could also record some middle sounds phonetically. Here is a piece of your work from May:

This writing shows that you can now record most beginning, middle, and end sounds correctly making accurate letter-sound connections. You are beginning to experiment with spacing and you now write lots of words that express a whole idea or story.

Congratulations on your progress Caileigh! You have worked hard on your writing.

Working on Reading

Dear Caileigh,

Since the beginning of Kindergarten 1 you have shown an interest in reading. This semester you have been working on developing your skills and have followed your interest in taking books home. You created a reading log to keep track of which books you were borrowing. Your enthusiasm for reading has continued and you are now able to sound out many words and also immediately recognize some words that we see quite often.
